30-second summary
- Presswood block = compressed = molded wood block: chips + resin, pressed in a mold.
- ISPM-15 exempt — no heat-treatment stamp, no fumigation.
- Sections: 90×90 · 70×90 · 95×95 · 145×100 · 145×145 mm; height cut to order.
- Rule of thumb: one truck ≈ 40 m³ (≈54,800 pcs at 90×90×90).
- Raw material: recovered wood chips — the circular approach EPAL uses in Euro pallets.
What the block does in a pallet
In block pallets the load travels through the blocks between the top deck and the runners; the blocks open the pallet to forklift entry from all four sides. Pallet life depends on the block's dimensional stability and nail grip.
Export difference: ISPM-15
ISPM-15 demands 30 minutes at 56 °C core temperature plus an IPPC stamp for raw-wood packaging. The official text excludes processed wood made with glue, heat and pressure — composite pallet blocks are explicitly listed as exempt [1]. Result: lower cost, faster shipping, zero border risk.
The green side: from chips to carrier
The body comes from sawmill by-products and recovered wood; no log is felled for a block [6][7]. End-of-life blocks are re-chipped back into production — EPAL uses wood-chip blocks in Euro pallets exactly this way and rates every component 100% recyclable [6]. Peer-reviewed life-cycle studies underline the same circularity [7][8].
